About 10 days out from my laparoscopy surgery for endometriosis I had a pre-op appointment with my surgeon, Dr. Frank Tu. The appointment would be about 20 minutes (I asked when I called to set it up), then, I would do my pre-surgery blood work. This was my chance to get all of my questions answered and to be clear about the specific logistics of my surgery and recovery. NOTE: This was not my first meeting with the surgeon. I had already interviewed my endometriosis surgeon and confirmed he would be performing excision, not ablation surgery, as excision is the gold standard of care for treating endometriosis. I will create a different guide about that initial meeting, with a similar list of questions. For a meeting like this, preparation is key. Once in the hospital you might forget your burning questions, the doctor could be running late, you could feel rushed, etc. I showed up with an orange clip board, two pages of printed questions and a business mindset.
At the end of the day you are purchasing a service from this surgeon, so it is your right – and responsibility – to do your due diligence. Below, I share the questions I asked and the answers I received. If you're interested in a blank template let me know in the comments and I can make one that can be downloaded and printed.
